WAE has been announced as a finalist for the 2015 Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Innovation Awards.
Following entries from 28 countries in the 15 award categories, WAE has been shortlisted for the IET’s Sustainability Award for its innovative battery technology that is powering the cars competing in Formula E, the world’s first fully electric racing series. Williams had only 12 months to design and manufacture batteries for 40 racing cars that could race at speeds of up to 225kph and last an entire season with no loss of power or performance. These batteries, built at the Williams HQ in Oxfordshire, are pushing electric vehicle technology to its limits and showed very impressive reliability during Formula E’s first season with only one failure during 440 individual race starts.
WAE will join other finalists in London on 18 November, at a prestigious awards dinner and ceremony, where Gadget Show presenter Ortis Deley will announce the winners.
